How do I configure my computer for Dialup?
01) Step #1

From the Start Menu, Choose "Settings" and then "Network and Dial-up Connections" to bring up this screen. You will only see the "Local Area Connection" if you have a network card as well as a modem.

Double-click the "Make New Connection" icon to start the Network Connection Wizard

1A) Step #1a

If you have not used your modem before, you will be prompted to enter some information regarding your current location. It should be enough to check that you are, indeed, in the United States and to enter your local dialing code. Click "OK" to continue.

1B) Step #1b

If you use a telephone calling card you can configure it here. Otherwise click "OK" to continue.

Click "Next >" to continue

03) Step #3

Select "Dial-up to the Internet" and click "Next >" to continue.

04) Step #4

Choose to configure your connection manually and click "Next >" to continue.

05) Step #5

Make sure that you have selected that you wish to connect by modem, then click "Next >" to continue.

5A) Step #5a

There are a number of reasons why you might see this message:

  • Are you using a modem and is it configured?
  • Is it plugged in to the computer and the power supply?
  • Is it switched on?

Follow the instructions in the wizard to install your modem. If your modem is not detected, check once more that all the requisite cables are connected and install any drivers that may have been supplied with the modem. If your modem is still not detected then contact your modem supplier for help.

06) Step #6

Enter the phone number for the local area you wish to access. Ignore the "Advanced" button and hit next.

08) Step #8

Enter your username and password in the appropriate boxes. Remember, your username is your full email address-for example, sally@monroemi.us You will be prompted later if you wish to save these values between sessions. Click "Next >" to continue.

09) Step #9

Choose a name for the connection, such as "Experts Internet". A descriptive name is easier to remember. Click "Next >" to continue.

10) Step #10

If this is a new computer or a new install. You should choose to set up an Internet mail account. Follow the instructions for whatever mail client they have and then click "Next >" to continue.

11) Step #11

DON'T connect immediately – we still need to finish the configuration and create a shortcut for the connection. Clear the check box and click "Finish".

12) Step #12

You should now have a new icon for your dialup connection to Experts Internet. Right-click it and choose "Create Shortcut". The system will tell you it cannot create a shortcut here and do you want it on the desktop. Click “Yes” and this will create a shortcut for the customer on their desktop.

What happens if I go over my allotted time for the month?

If you are on a measured service account and you go over your time for the month, you simply call our main office and have them upgrade your account for the remainder of the month. For example if you are on the 200 Hour plan and go over 215 hours, you can call and we will upgrade you to the unlimited plan for the remainder of the month for $5.00. At the end of your billing cycle your account will be reset to the previous plan.

 
What are the configuration settings I need to get connected?

These are all the numbers you will need to get connected.

IP Address : Server Assigned

Pop3 Server (Mail) : mail.monroemi.us

SMTP Server (Mail) : mail.monroemi.us

Email Address Format: loginame@monroemi.com

To access your e-mail through the web, go to:

http://mail.monroemi.us:8080/
and enter your full name e-mail address and password.

 
Can I connect to AOL through Experts Internet?

Yes. After you have established the connection to Experts Internet, start your AOL software. Select the "Setup" button, then select "Edit Location". Leave "Phone Number" blank, set "Modem Speed" to 57600 bps, and set "Network" to TCP/IP. Select "Save", select "OK". Make sure you have already established the TCP/IP connection and then login to AOL as you normally would.

How do I update my dialup properties to use 10 digit dialing on my Macintosh

MacIntosh users using FreePPP Setup

* Go to the APPLE in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

* Select "Control Panels."

* Select "FreePPP" Setup.

NOTE: The FreePPP Setup should open with four tabs across the bottom of the window named. GENERAL, ACCOUNTS, LOCATIONS, AND MODEMS. If these do not appear, click the small blue triangle in the lower left hand corner of the window to expand the window.

* Select the "Accounts" tab.

* Be sure the Experts Internet account is highlighted and click the EDIT button.

* Enter the AREA CODE of the 10-digit Internet Access Phone Number in the AREA CODE field.

* Check the "Dial area code" button.

* Click "OK".

* Click on the "LOCATIONS" tab.

* Select EDIT.

* Change the field that reads "When account area code...." to read, "Dial account area code without long distance prefix."

* Click "OK."

MacIntosh users with Mac OS 7.6 - 8.6 Using Remote Access or PPP control panel Select Remote Access or PPP using the Apple pulldown menu. Then:

* Click Apple Menu / Control Panels / Remote Access or PPP.

* Highlight and delete the access number in the "Number" field.

* Enter the 10-digit Access telephone number

* Click "Options" button.

* Click "Redialing" Tab.

* Click the "Redial" dropdown menu and select "Redial main and alternate numbers."

* Re-enter the 10-digit Access Number in the 'Alternate Number' field.

* Click "OK".

* Close the Remote Access control panel and "SAVE" changes.
